In the narrow alleys in the old city of Rethymno you will find 'The Well'. The restaurant is located in a courtyard that was an extension of a large Venetian building of the 16th century, and was used for watering and keeping horses.

Since 2003 the site functions as a restaurant the owner and chef Thanks Pavlakis, managing within a few years to include the 10 best restaurants in Crete by the international tourist guide 'Rough guide'.

The building was completely destroyed during the Turkish period except the courtyard and the exterior wall where during the restoration were the well, the large stone trough a stone lion head and various objects dating from the 16th century decorate the area today.
